Rapp also revealed Cruz has been cast has his love interest. An Instagram from CBS reveals that Cruz will play the ship’s medical officer Dr. Hugh Culber.

Shortly after Rapp made the announcement, Cruz tweeted, “Well, apparently, the cat is finally out of the bag… I’m so THRILLED to be apart of the epic American mythology that is #StarTrek!”

Rapp is best known for performing in the original Broadway cast of Rent. He also appeared in the film version of Rent.
